What is a Noise Impact Assessment?
A noise impact assessment is a type of survey that is often necessary in determining what is feasible for a particular location in terms of noise tolerance. Often this type of assessment is asked for by the local authority in order for a planning application to be accepted.
The assessment of a noise issue may be via measurements of existing noise, or prediction, calculation and modelling of proposed noise sources.
The results of the assessment are compared to local and national legislation in order to determine if the planning application complies with regulations on noise. If this is the case then it will normally mean that noise will not be an issue and the application can be accepted pending review by the local authority.
If the evaluation shows that noise impact will exceed the levels allowed within regulations, then it will be necessary for noise impact to be mitigated.
Determine what difference the planned development will make to the pre-existing noise levels at or around the proposed site.
